"making it happen"
Mayfield and Easthouses Development Trust, is a charitable, community focussed organisation creating opportunities and improving facilities to regenerate the Mayfield and Easthouses Area
Mayfield and Easthouses, dating back to 1825 with semi-detached villas laid out by James Gillespie Graham, a political leader of the antislavery movement, is an area, like so many in Midlothian, with a proud history of Mining. It boasts terrific surounding countryside, as well as fantastic panoramic views of the Pentlands and good connections to Edinburgh and the Scottish Borders via the A7 Tourist Route. At MAEDT we are working with a network of Community Groups and Partners to make Mayfield and Easthouses and better place to live and work.

The group is open to all ages and will provide people with the opportunity to get out of the house and have a good blether over a cup of tea. The group members will decide what activities they would like to participate in, over the coming weeks. Landshare Pilot Scheme
MAEDT is also running a landshare pilot scheme. We have identified six gardens in the community which volunteers will plant with all types of vegetables. The householder, the volunteer gardener and MAEDT will all share a percentage of the produce and all parties will sign a land share agreement. MAEDT hopes to recruit the help of our Garden Competition entrants, to use their expertise in growing the vegetables. If the pilot scheme is successful MAEDT feels this scheme will be very beneficial to the community, especially at this time of economic decline and hardship. Please contact us if you would like to be a volunteer gardener or if you have land you would like to share. Maedt’s share of the vegetables from the pilot scheme will be given to the community. The Trust will use the Toot for Fruit van to distribute their share of the vegetables, if the pilot scheme proves to be a success.
