Project Information

The MAEDT Community Hub at 12 Bogwood Court, Mayfield functions as the Trusts office as well as a drop in centre for the community.  The vision for the centre is to have a one stop shop where the community can access support and information.  The MAEDT Centre currently provides a space for groups and activities including a group using our kitchen facilities for cooking courses.

MAEDT Lunch Club
A recent project that began in September 2012, the Lunch Club was set up to provide isolated older people in community with a social gathering they could attend and make new friends. With tea/coffee served on arrival followed by sensibly priced lunches (inc. soup) provided by the Mayfield Community Club, MAEDT provide a minibus service to pick up/drop off the service users free of charge to clients who live in Mayfield or Easthouses but anyone who can find alternative transport are more than welcome to come along as well.

MAEDT Job Club
The Job Club began at the end of 2013 and provides people in the local community with assistance creating c.v.'s, setting up Universal Job Match User Accounts, setting up e-mail address, job search, applying for jobs and interview techniques.  The Job Club drop in runs every Tuesdays from 10.30am-12.30pm and Thursdays 10am-12pm and Fridays at Mayfield Library from 11am- 1pm.

Mayfield and Easthouses Baby and Toddler Group

Our Baby & Toddler Group is not running at the moment but we are hoping to relaunch it once we move to our new premises.

Mayfield and Easthouses Walking Network

In 2010 MAEDT developed a walking network, made up from the network of streets, paths and parkland around the community.  MAEDT has produced maps with 5 easy to use routes around the community.  MAEDT are in the process of setting up walking groups and provide walk leader training to expand the use of this network.  Once we have an established walking group and funding we may even take the group on excursions.

Mayfield and Easthouses Street Audits

We are going to begin a street audit walking group that will take part in walks in the local area of Mayfield & Easthouses, taking note of defects and reporting them back to the MAEDT office.  The staff will then report the defects to the relevant authority to rectify.

Mayfield & Easthouses Buggy Walks

We are going to begin a walking group for parents and their children to take part in, to encourage healthy exercise as well as meeting new people.  Children of all ages are welcome to take part with their parents/carers.

Art Residency Project

In 2010, Midlothian Council appointed an artist in residence for Midlothian, exploring the theme of identity.  MAEDT has been an integral part of this project.  Susan Grant, Artist in Residence, has facilitated several workshops and some of the art created is on display in the MAEDT Centre.  Although the residency has now ended there will be a shop shutter painting project in May 2013.

Community Activities

MAEDT Fun Days

Allows MAEDT to advise the members the community of Mayfield & Easthouses what MAEDT do as well as having various fun activities, games, prizes and entertainment for both the kids and parents.  The event includes the Annual Gardening Competition Award Ceremony sponsored by The Mayfield Community Club.

MAEDT Summer Programme

Since summer 2009 MAEDT have provided an extensive Children’s Programme for children aged between 0 and 5 years old.  These programmes have been provided over the Easter and Summer Holiday.  As the provision is very little for this age group in the area, this provides parents and children in our community with low cost activities which they can enjoy together over the holiday periods.

Community Clean Up’s

In 2012 MAEDT established a format for Community Clean Ups working in partnership with Midlothian Council. Now that this is in place the Trust intend to deliver more of this type of activity encouraging inter-generational co-operation by working with local organd other groups of volunteers.

Gardening Competition

MAEDT co-ordinate an annual gardening competition culminating in a presentation ceremony that takes place during the Fun Day celebration in August.  Awards and prizes in various categories such as best flower and best vegetable gardens are presented.  The event is sponsored by the Mayfield Community Club and the overall winner is presented with the Dick Small Memorial Trophy.

MAEDT Social Enterprises

Room Hire

MAEDT hire part of the Hub out a hot desk to the Midlothian Voluntary Action on a long term basis which generates regular income for the Trust.  Space is also available  in the evenings to local groups and organisations, should you need space for board meetings, one to one conversations or  activities.  The Citizens Advise Bureau use the meeting room at MAEDT every Wednesday from 9.30am to 12.30pm should you have any benefit queries, this is a drop in service and will not require an appointment.

Mini Bus Hire

Purchased in October 2012 with funding from Coalfield Regeneration Trust, the MAEDT minibus is used by various organisations and groups in and around Midlothian to allow their service users to attend events and widen the service they provide.  Unfortunately the bus became unrepairable but the good news is that we have another bus now.  Please be aware that our new bus has 15 seat including the driver.  Our minibus is available to local registered organisations and charitable groups for hire, we can provide a volunteer driver but the bus can be booked on a self drive basis as long as the driver has a full clean UK D1 licence.

MAEDT Personal

Launched at the end of 2015, MAEDT Personal is a social enterprise aimed at providing low cost personalised merchandise such as t-shirts or cups.  The project is volunteer lead , with volunteers both designing the artwork and printing the images to the t-shirt or cup.  Since it has begun we have had a number of orders but or most popular item would be our cups.  You can see an example of some of the work we have done on the MAEDT Personal tab at the top of the page.

 Marquee Hire

Originally purchased for use at outdoor events run by  MAEDT, the marquee and associated equipment has been expanded into private hires for organisations and individual members of the community for their social gatherings and events.  The MAEDT minibus is used to transport the marquee to and from the events/bookings.
